Beauty on a Budget: Olay Professional Pro-X

After months of hearing the phrases “global recession” and “economic downturn” I finally decided to try out the Olay Professional Pro-X line ($42 each, drugstores), which claims to offer results as effective as a prescription or luxury brand--at a fraction of the cost. For 28 days, I locked away all of my anti-aging products, most of which with $100+ price tags, and adopted the Olay Protocol, which includes the daily use of three Key Products: Age Repair Lotion with SPF 30, Wrinkle Smoothing Cream, and Deep Wrinkle Treatment. In clinical studies, the Olay Professional Pro-X Intensive Wrinkle Protocol was shown to reduce the appearance of wrinkles with no increased skin dryness and “provide significant improvement in facial stratum corneum barrier function after six months of treatment." Other products in the line, such as Hydra Firming Cream, Eye Restoration Complex, and Discoloration Fighting Concentrate, offer targeted solutions to individual skin needs. The Bottom Line: I found that my skin maintained the appearance provided by much more expensive anti-aging regimens, however my deep-rooted luxe-ist mentality left me with serious withdrawls from the big three: La Mer, Obagi and SkinCeuticals.

Clinique Even Better Makeup spf 15 & High Impact Curling Mascara

Ahhh.. Clinique, every time I try to leave, you suck me back in. I've had a love/hate relationship with this brand ever since my mom took me to their counter inside of Macy's when I was about 13 years old to buy 3-Step Skin Care and Black Honey Lip Sheer, to be exact. Now, I'll admit, their "allergy tested" & "100% fragrance free" tag lines never even make me think twice about trying out EVERYTHING that they send my way, but the 13 year old that lives within still gets pissy that my mom didn't take me to Lancome! Moving on, I'm really diggin' the newish Even Better Makeup SPF 15 & High Impact Curling Mascara. The liquid makeup/treatment ($24.50) covers nicely (smooth, matte finish) without completely masking my face, and the fact that it promises to help correct the appearance of hyper-pigmentation and discolorations over time is just an added bonus. I've also been using the High Impact Curling Mascara in Black ($14) everyday for the past few weeks. The formula seems similar, or maybe even identical to, their original High Impact Mascara, but this version boasts a fluffier, curved brush that really grabs and coats almost the entire lash line in one stroke--effortlessly.

La Prairie introduces: Platinum Power

First there was the Skin Caviar Collection, then there was Cellular Radiance Pure Gold Concentrate and now La Prairie introduces the crown jewel of their cult favorite collections with Cellular Cream Platinum Rare. A revolutionary anti-aging cream, key ingredient pure platinum maintains an electrical balances in the epidermis, allowing the skin to function effectively and perform efficiently to obtain optimal electrolyte and fluid balance -- thus creating a lifted, firm and glowing appearance. Priced at $1,000 for 1.7 oz. Personally, I think I'd rather have a jar filled of 10 crisp $100 bills, but I guess anything is worth a try if you have the funds.
